Description of Programme
This Fort Canning Walking Tour allows participants to fully explore the interconnected themes that pervade the Fort Canning Park – History and Heritage, Colonial Connections, World War Two, Spices and Nature, and Maritime Role. The walking tour reveals an insight into the deep and varied history of Singapore through the years. Itinerary – Gothic Gates, Fort Canning Centre, Time Ball, Flagstaff, Remnants of the Fort Wall, Sally Port/Underground Bunker, Fort Gate, First Christian Cemetary, Spice Garden, Archaeological Dig / Excavation Area, Keramat (Shrine) of Sri Sultan Iskandar Shah, Heritage Trees Specific Learning Points • Singapore’s early history, British colonial history • Maritime connections • HQ of Malaya Command • Community role – SG50 and Bicentennial
