Description of Programme

This trail introduces people and places that are familiar but have surprising and little-known stories connected to them that lets them shine in a different light. Dr Benjamin Sheares was the President of Singapore. He was also the first gynaecologist of Singapore who has made medical advancements that are in practice till today. The General Hospital of Singapore celebrates its 200th Anniversary in 2021 – a milestone that speaks of resilience, innovation, care and positive outlook into the future. Tiong Bahru’s transformation from a swampy area occupied by graveyards to the home of Singapore’s first Community Centre to one of the best-preserved low-rise Art Deco style mass public housing projects in the world is testimony to the city's physical transformation taking past into consideration for the present and into the plans for the future.
