Seeking Common Ground: A Workshop on Religious Harmony™ (In-camp Programme)

Description of Programme

Appreciation and respect for the cultures, traditions and practices of the different communities is critical in ensuring peace and harmony in multireligious Singapore. This can only happen if Singaporeans gain understanding of the different faiths practised so that they go beyond tolerance. Participants will be introduced to a basic understanding of the role religion plays in society and why we should protect the principle of secularism in Singapore. They will learn the basic tenets, philosophy and practices of 4 major world religions and realise the dangers of having misconceptions about other faiths. Through a virtual tour they will view distinctive architectural features of each place of worship. They will also reflect on the places of worship visited and how the experience contributes towards Social and Psychological Defence. Sites Covered (Choice of Three): a. Chinese Syncretic Temples - Thian Hock Keng Temple or Leng Hup San Chee Cheap Temple b. Hindu Temples - Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Srinivasan Perumal Temple or Sri Arasakesari Sivan Temple c. Churches - The Armenian Church or Church of St Mary of the Angels d. Mosques - Masjid Omar Kampong Melaka or Al-Khair Mosque Mode of Programme 1. Seminar-cum-workshop with immersive group activities for greater audience participation 2. Conducted by senior consultant 3. Programme will be a combination of PowerPoint Slides, Videos & interactive elements e.g: Quizzes using game-based learning tools 4. Participants will need to use their mobile phones for online quizzes

2. Introduction to major religions of Singapore's ethnic communities

3. Unity in Diversity: Gain a deeper understanding of how misconceptions can lead to cracks in society and why we should celebrate Singapore's diverse cultures

Terms and Conditions

Amendments
a. The units will be allowed to make a one-time amendment to their booking, to be communicated to SHC in writing at least ten working days before the conduct of the NE Activity.

b. If the units submit an amendment to their booking less than ten working days before the conduct of the NE Activity, they will be charged an amendment fee.

Absentees
a. SHC will charge the full amount per participant who is absent from the NE Activity without any valid reason.

b. The charges will be waived in full for absent participants with a valid reason, subject to a maximum of 10 per cent of the agreed number of participants.

c. The following valid reasons for absenteeism are:
c.i. Submit a valid medical certificate or relevant medical documentation, or
c.ii. Furnish certain compelling reasons which are unrelated to work commitments, such as compassionate leave

d. Relevant documentation must be provided within 5 working days of the completion of the NE Activity.

Cancellation
a. In the event that units request cancellation of confirmed NE Activities, SHC may impose cancellation charges on these units, if a cancellation notice is not received (in writing) at least 10 working days prior to the confirmed date of the Activity. The cancellation charges will be as follows:

Cancellation notice (No. of Working Days) before confirmed date of NE Activity and maximum cancellation charges:
Less than 10 working days' notice - 10% of total fees for all participants
Less than 2 working days' notice - 50% of total fess for all participants
Less than 1 working days' notice - 100% of total fees
