Meeting the Challenges of Race in Singapore: A Workshop on Social Cohesion™ (In-camp)

Description of Programme

Singapore prides itself as a harmonious multiracial society, however this should not be taken for granted. Through this programme, participants will gain an understanding of the origins of Singapore's ethnic diversity and the consequences of recent changes in the ethnic composition of the population today. Through interactive game based activities they will gain an awareness of the possible underlying prejudices (mental models) they may have about other communities in our society. They will gain a better understanding of why intercommunal tensions occur and the vital importance of addressing these challenges for a truly harmonious Singapore. Participants will also learn how digital platforms can be exploited cynically for socially destructive activities, e.g. dissemination of bigotry and hatred, and terrorism-related ideology and activities. Mode of Delivery 1. In-camp session in classrooms 2. Seminar-cum-workshop with immersive group activities for greater audience participation 3. Programme will be a combination of PowerPoint Slides, Videos & interactive elements e.g. Quizzes using game-based learning tools 4. Participants will need to use their mobile phones for online quizzes 5. Participants will require Internet connectivity
