Cleaning Singapore

Description of Programme

“Cleaning Singapore” traces the massive challenges faced by Singapore in cleaning a third world slum into a thriving clean and green metropolis. Relocating industries, displacing farmers, rehousing squatter settlements and monitoring illegal street hawkers were all tackled, paving the way for Singaporeans to enjoy one of the highest quality-of-life environments in the world today. Yet the work is not done and our servicemen are reminded of the part that they still play in keeping Singapore clean. Mr Loh A.T. was the former DGEP and DyCEO of the National Environment Agency who served in many senior management positions throughout his years of service. He is one of the only 10 recipients of the Gold Medal to recognise their effort in cleaning up the Singapore River, a 10-year multi-agency challenge that has transformed life in Singapore.
