War & Remembrance: A Trail on the Western Front™

Description of Programme

The Japanese army invaded northwestern Singapore in February 1942 after conquering Malaya in just eight weeks. The defending Australian soldiers – as part of the multinational Allied army – were hugely outnumbered and more of them died in the fighting here than anywhere else in Malaya and Singapore during the war. Get an appreciation of the challenges faced by the military when operating in such terrain, as well as an understanding of the nature of war. Understand the importance of promoting a Culture of Remembrance in Singapore and recognise the soldiers and airmen who contributed to the war effort. Programme includes a Reflection Session at Kranji War Cemetery. Sites Covered a. Sarimbun Beach Heritage Marker b. Sky Greens (Drive-past) c. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (entry subject to availability) d. Kranji Reservoir Park – War Memorial Marker e. Kranji War Cemetery (entry subject to availability)
