Description of Programme

Singapore was a clean and green city before it became fashionable to be environmentally friendly. Participants will learn the importance of the environment and what Singapore is doing to give its citizens world class living conditions. This "Clean, Green and Blue" tour traces the history of the Singapore Botanic Gardens and its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Singapore’s efforts in greening the country, its approach to waste management and water independence are all important facets of Singapore’s contribution to Sustainability. The tour will also cover Singapore’s latest green attraction “Gardens by the Bay”. Sites to be visited – Singapore Botanic Garden, Singapore River, Sustainable Singapore Gallery (Marina Barrage) Specific Learning Points • The reality of Climate Change and Sustainability in the Singapore context. Singapore’s achievements in improving our environment through the efforts of NParks, NEA and PUB. • Achieving water independence – turning a disadvantage into a strength. • Cleaning Singapore River, removal of pollution sources and instilling new behaviours. • Greening our streets and living spaces. • UNESCO World Heritage Site listing – what it means and why it is important. • How everyone can be involved in becoming more environmentally active.
