Description of Programme

Water has played a major role in many conflicts all over the world. Even in Singapore the critical importance of the supply of water influenced many military decisions during the fall of Singapore. The "A Thirst for Survival" tour examines the past, present and future roles of water in Singapore and how the nation improved its defences, reduced its vulnerability regarding water and achieved water independence. Sites to be visited - Former Ford Factory, Singapore River, Marina Barrage Specific Learning Points • Singapore's limited water sources and its 4 taps strategy to achieve water independence • Former Ford Factory recounts the fall of Singapore, and the importance of the military to protect assets • Marina Barrage illustrates Singapore’s forward-looking water strategy, and our commitment to long term water security • Reminder of the importance of physical needs for continued well-being, i.e., water, food, housing, security and the need to protect them
