Total Defence Programmes 2019

You are a TD Guardian!
29 January 2019 to 24 March 2019

TDD19 Special Exhibition: Our Next Battlefront

This exhibition is “Our Next Battlefront” – The Battle for the Hearts and the Minds of both you and me. The exhibition is to help ensure the first line of defence in the protection of peace in Singapore – within the information sphere. What we do today matters not only in securing peace presently, but also decides the future that we want for Singapore – a future for Singapore by Singaporeans, and not anyone else. The exhibition is expected to run from 29 January 2019 to 24 March 2019. The main exhibition would be held at SDC and two satellites stationed at Tampines Regional Library and Woodlands Regional Library.

Lesson objectives:
– Appreciate how the 5 pillars of Total Defence (TD) contribute to building a strong, secure and cohesive nation in times of troubled peace.
– Gain awareness of current threats and ever present challenges to Singapore.
– Reflect on our past and appreciate the efforts of various National Service (NS) institutions and our National Servicemen defending our nation.
– Instill in students the confidence to play their part in times of crisis.
– Understand that every Singaporean each plays his or her own part for Total Defence.

General Description of TD programmes
Attention all students! It’s time for us to gear up and support our TD Defenders in responding to various threats facing our nation. Experience first-hand how Singapore’s Total Defence framework is poised and ready for an all-round response to threats and challenges through our Special exhibition, Mission-based stations as well as SCDF Special Showcase and Vehicular display. Learn more about disinformation, and how fake news and distorted half-truths can affect you, me, and our country.

Primary Level
Students, in the “3Cs and Grenade Throwing” activity, students will go through the 3Cs (Camouflage Conceal Cover) as well as the proper grenade throwing activities to have a feel of what it’s like to be a Soldier. All these would reinforce the message of the importance of physical fitness and training prior to National Service enlistment.
In the “Trap and Self Rescue” activity, students will learn about Emergency Preparedness by working in teams to find clues and solve mini challenges related to some crisis situation in order to escape safely.

Secondary Level
Secondary school students will learn the importance of SGSecure – “Run Hide Tell” in an activity based station. They will be better prepared and know how to protect themselves and their loved ones during an emergency. Students will also learn how to play their parts in helping one another to bounce back quickly in the aftermath of an attack.
Also, the annual SCDF Special Showcase and Vehicular Display showcase allows students to acquire skills and knowledge that will be crucial during times of crises and emergencies. These skills include CPR, basic first aid, fire-fighting and useful response skills during emergencies and crises such as natural disasters.
